I’ve worked in the tech industry for quite some time now, from website design to computer and cell phone repair and retail. The one problem that none of these devices can escape is a damaged charging port. Tablets, phones, computers, none are safe from this dreaded and costly repair. One of my nephews damaged his port today (the day of writing the article).
Causes of a damaged cable and charging port
So why does this occur so frequently on mobile devices? What do we do more of with these devices?
Quite simply, we charge these devices more! The smaller the device, the more times it has to be charged. This results in more inserts and removals to and from the charging port (more on how to make your phone battery last longer ).

Doing this multiple times over the lifespan of your device weakens the port. Not to mention the times we forgot we had the device plugged in and ended up pulling it and straining the socket even more.
How to Protect your Charging Cable?
Now the issue has been identified we can solve it!
The solution is a Magnetic USB Charging cable. This cable works in two parts: one end goes into the charging port and ideally, never has to be removed. The other end connects to that end magnetically. See the video demonstration below.
A Magnetic cable solves all of the issues mentioned before.
- The cables automatically disconnect under too much diagonal pressure. Yet, the magnet is strong enough to suspend the phone in midair.
- The end only needs to be inserted once into your device, reducing the number of inserts over time.
Choose from one of the magnetic cables below and enjoy your longer-lasting device.
Magnetic Charging Cable: Pros and Cons
Magnetic charging cable pros are listed below
Pro
- Phone Protection – Magnetic cables protect your charging port from wear and tear.
Pro
- Charger Protection – Magnetic cables protect your charger from wear and tear.
Pro
- Dust Plug – Stops dust and other debris from entering your device.
Pro
- One-Handed use – Quick connection when driving or in the dark.
Pro
- Quality – Braided magnetic cables provide higher quality than standard.
Magnetic charging cables cons are listed below:
Con
- Quick Disconnection – A magnetic charging cable disconnects under too much pressure.
Con
- Using the magnetic cable for a task that requires a steady connection like transferring files over USB. Knocking over your device can cause it to disconnect and stop the transfer, even though it may have saved your charging port.
Con
- More Expensive – These types of cables can be a bit more expensive than a standard USB cable.
Con
- More than one part – If not stored incorrectly, you might lose the magnetic end or forget about it. However, it is unlikely as we recommend you keep the magnetic connector in your device. Anything else defeats the purpose.
